Editing the front cover picture

This is the original picture, that i took with my camera, and i decided to choose this as my front cover picture.

Firstly i decided to make the sky lighter and the picture lighter.

Secondly, i have added more contrast to the picture, because it will add alot of colour and will stand out on the front page.

Finally, i have zoomed in to the face area and have got rid some spots and add saturation to the hair. and i have also got rid of the strand of hair add the end of the picture.

Music Magazine Name Ideas

Looking for a name for my music magazine was quite difficult for me however i thought of many names to use for my magazine.

I started to ask my target audience what magazine that would catch there eye in a newsagents or supermarket, and what drags there attention in the magazine and most of them said the name of the magazine because its short and simple, for example Nme (New Musical Express).

The Name i have chosen for my music magazine is Signature

I wanted to include signature artists in my music magazine and as i started to think of names, i thought of signature and i even tried it as an example on my mock up magazine and it went perfect.

This is my favorite Font for my magazine. it suits the genre and it is perfect to use for the ideas of my photo shoot. As this is perfect to use, this is my font chosen for my music magazine.

This font would be perfect to use and this font is call Garamond. i think it is elegant for the name signature and it really stands out to the public.

Photoshoot for Music Magazine

These are the photos that i have a taken for my music magazine, i have taken 51 all together so i will have alot to choose from, and different camera shots, for example long shots, close up shots and a few others.
In some of the pictures you will see perfect views in liverpool, which i was going to use for my double page spread.
I also asked permission from dawsons Music shop in liverpool, if i could take some pictures for media and they said yes and some of those pictures i am going to use for my contents page.

My Target Audience

Genre - Pop

The genre i am focusing on is pop, the reason why i chose pop is because there is a bigger target audience for that chosen genre.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (born 5 May 1988), better known simply as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter, musician and multi-instrumentalist. 

she received the Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" award and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to much commercial and critical success. It certified four times platinum in the UK, and double platinum in the US.

Her career in the US was boosted by a Saturday Night Live appearance in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Adele released her second album, in early 2011. The album was well received critically and surpassed the success of her debut. earning the singer six Grammy Awards in 2012 including Album of the Year, equalling the record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night

My Target audience

My target audience is someone who listens to rihanna, adele, and katy perry.

In there spare time, She spends time following her favourite  celebritys on twitter or looking for Vblogs or new music videos on youtube.

She also buys magazines with the cover of there favourite artist or the news of her celebrity.

She also spends time looking for news on there celebrity.

She also likes to spend time in hmv looking at posters and also looking for cds by new artist or bands.

She also looks at fashion magazines to get the latest look of stars like rihanna or taylor swift.

On the contents page, i started to research different school newsletters and see what they added in there newspaper for example, fun zone, i decided to add the puzzle zone, and then i also added the holiday dates and messages from the head. and i also added sports news for the basketball team, and the cheerleading.

The Ipads have been brought in to the school to help students with there learning and give them a better way in discovering education through the ipads.

I have also looked at we will rock you, which was an event that was held last week at the school and it was a huge success and many people enjoyed the event.

I decided to also included the logo to remind parents what this newspaper is all about.

For new technology with the pictures i have used, meaning that there are new macs and ipads for younger students.

I also added a picture of the ipads being used, by a sixth form student, which will show parents, we have new technology.

i have also added gcse results at the bottom to remind parents that are school is successfull and will be very successfull.

I have also added a lure to pupils which will get them interested in trying effort in classes to win reward points for an ipad.

Laura Mulvey (The Male Gaze Theory)

The Concept of Gaze is one that deals with how an audience views the people presented.
Feminists can think about it in 3 ways, One is how men look at women, Two is How women look at themselves and three is how women look at other women .
Laura Mulvey created the term "Male Gaze" in 1975, she believes that in films, audiences have to view character from the perspective of a hetrosexual male.
The Gaze can also be directed toward members of the same gender for several reasons, not all of which are sexual, such as in comparison of body image or in clothing.

Richard dyer's star theory 

Richard dyer's star Theory is the idea that icons and celebs are constructed by institutions for financial gain and are built to target a specific audience or group of people.

It can be broken down into segments, audience and institutions, constructions and hegemony.

Audience and Institutions - Stars are made to make money for that purpose alone.

The insitution then models the stars image around the target audience, for example katy perry.

Constructions - The star is built for an audience, and is not an actual person.

The star is built specifically with someone signature to them that differentiates them from other stars, for example Nicki Minaj's fashion and lady gaga's.

Hegemony - We relate the star because they have a feature that we admire or share with them, this develops from an admiration into an idolization.

Some people may attempt to replicate what they like about the star, but this can be negative as even though stars are seen as role models, some abuse hard drugs and alcohol which can lead to people who worship these stars copying there actions.

Cohen Moral Panic

Cohen's Moral Panic is when a condition, episode, or groups of people which are a threat to society. Normally it's people in power who say what is threat - people like politicians, bishops, and the media. The theory says we take groups, like MPs and immigrants and turn into villains in the media. The media then will turn these groups into "folk devils" which makes people want the government to control these groups. In the UK, the BBFC classifies movies, as movies are evil in the media - e.g. certificates, 12, 15, 18 etc. (and MPAA in the United States).

School Newsletter Evaluation

Here is the deyes front cover newsletter,as you can see they have included dates to inform students and parents events coming up, and that will help students and teacher catch information if they wanted to know for example when the concert is and what time it will be on. also the colour scheme is quite effective because it includes the schools main colours, Red, Blue and light blue. You can also see that the target audience is also not just the students, the parents aswell because you can see the message from the head, she is explaining news about the school.

They also include mini paragraphs from the schools events and other news to interest the parents and students and tell them how successful it was that night. they are also promoting the school, the subjects and the events, to the students and the parents. if you want my opinion this page could bore readers because it isn't saying much about the term, hardly any pictures used for the page.

This page, sums up who the target audience is aimed at, and it targeted at students, and its a page that can help them with maths and give them time to have a practise, however students may not like this and think its a waste of time.

The attendance shows students and also parents how great the schools attendance and also promotes the school to primary students.

This is my mock up on the front cover of the school newsletter, i decided to have the name "The Deyes Express" because it links to other newspapers i researched and it sound catchy and fun to use, i decided to put the logo of deyes in the corner and to make it stand out so people will know what this newsletter is all about.
The Motto really stands out to alot of people, especially for parents because they want to see what this school offers to there child, i also wanted to add the school reception to this magazine because it has changed since last year and they have added alot of new technology and new designs to the school, it also links in to the reception.
i also researched are school newsletter and added imformation to the newsletter.

In our lesson, we done photoshop tutorials.

Spot blemish tool.

 Above is the orignal picture of a dalmation puppy, you then look for the plaster looking tool and simply go over the spots and suddenly they vanish. and you can then look below and see that the dogs spots have disapeared.

Another example of the spot blemish tool. which can be used on a human. This allows you to remove any marks/blemishes from a photograph. To display this clearly I used the spot healing tool in this image to erase the spots of off the Dalmatian and the boys face.

Make the bottles disapear.

to make one bottle dissapear, you have to head straight to the stamp button which is on the left side bar, which is also the 9th one down. then you click the alt button to which image you want to clone and then let go of the alt bar and just then simply click on where you would like the clone button to go.

here is what happened when i made one bottle dissapear.

As you can now see the bottle has disappeared.

Ideology

Ideology is a body of ideas or set of beliefs that underpins a process or institution and leads to social relations. These set of beliefs are those held bygroups within society, and the prevalent ones are those held by the ruling/dominant groups, it is the ideas behind a media text, the secret agenda of its producers, it is important to be able to identify the different ideological discourses that may be present in even an apparently simple photograph.

My Ideology that i want to get on the school newspaper/magazine about the school is some ideas i thought about in class, i could try and show the reader that the school offers education and care to the students and also brand new technology, by taking a picture of the front of the school sign with a student in front of it, holding an ipad which is the new technology that has been brought into the school.

I also looked at deyes high school VLE, to get more ideas for the school magazine front cover, i came across the welcome paragraph which i could use for the front cover.

"At Deyes High School we believe we offer education with a difference which enables us to maintain the very highest standards of learning and personal development.  We are noted for being a caring and well disciplined school and our key aim is to ensure that all students realise beyond their potential.  We are a happy school, with an energetic and talented staff committed to presenting high standards."

By looking at this paragraph, you could get a range of ideas, you could take a picture of one of the staff (Headteacher) with either the head boy or head girl laughing and smiling outside the school front, with  the huge sign of the school behind.

Image Ideas

This photo gives me an idea of taking a picture of the whole school, and adding the sign and how well presented the school is.

This photo gives me an idea of showing experiments with science and cooking and showing the readers that they enjoy lessons with cooking and science experiments.

This is also another idea i have found, i could take a picture of student enjoying lessons with sport and also uses the welcome paragraph by showing staff being energetic, and talented.

I started to think about what ideologies I wanted to present, and how I could achieve this through the newsletter.

Thinking about ideologies, creating the school newsletter you have to consider the main ideology and what deyes high offer to the students and parents and showing that through a newsletter.

Also deyes high are showing student that the buildings are changing and redeveloping the area so that it is safe towards the students. and also including pictures of the school in the newsletter of what is happening.

Semiotics

Semiotics Lesson

Semiotics is the study of signs. A sign is something that stands for something, other than itself.

  There are two main studys, one is study by sausuure - sausuure's dyadic semiotics system and the other is pierces's tryadic semiotic system.

The first, is based on a study by Saussure - Sausuure's dyadic semiotic system. He concluded that signs are purely psychological and that they only make sense in a formal abstract system. He also stated that a one word language is an impossibility, and that a sign refers to what it is not. A sign is made up of a signifier, which signifies the signified - basically, something which connotes something else.

The other is Pierce's tryadic semiotic system, which states that there are 3 main different types of sign; indexes, icons and symbols. With indexes, it is connected to the signified in some way, either physically or casually (eg. the smell of smoke signifies a fire, but does not necessarily indicate a fire). An icon means that the signifier resembles the signified, for example a painting of a tree resembles a tree, but is not a tree itself, and a symbol is when the signifier is totally arbitrary and conventional, such as letters and numbers.

RESEARCH FOR MUSIC MAGAZINES

Here is my initial research for genres for my music magazine, i have decided to look at rock/ heavy rock, pop, indie  and Rnb, which are the top most looked at genres in music.

 This is an example of a music magazine linked mostly at pop and Rnb, this magazine is Billboard - Billboard  is an international news magazine devoted to music and the music industry, is usually mixed with any kind of genre however it is mostly aimed at pop. It maintains several internationally recognized music charts that track the most popular songs and albums in various categories on a weekly basis. As you can see that the main image on this picture is Rnb Pop star Rihanna, and it quickly directs the readers. Personally i love this genre, and it lets me think about pop magazines aswell.

This is an example of a music magazine, directed at the indie or rock genre, The New Musical Express, popularly known by initialism NME, created by Theodore Smythson, is a music journalism publication in the United Kingdom, Knowing what Nme stands for, gave me some ideas in naming my magazine, when you see this magazine it stands out with having a massive headline on the cover and it will make the reader look directly at the magazine and would also persuade them to buy the magazine.

This is an example of a rock/heavy genre based music magazine, Kerrang! is a UK-based magazine devoted to rock music published by Bauer Media Group., Kerrang! was initially devoted to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the rise of hard rock acts. You can tell straight away that this is a rock based genre because the colour is black which would connotate dark, and frightning which rock music would be based on. it also has Rammstein, paramore, nickelback, linkin park, lostprophets, biffy clyro, five finger death punch, fall out boy and rob zombie who are Rock bands and singers associated with rock.

This is one of my favourite examples of a pop/rock genre based music magazine.

Rolling Stone is an American magazine published every two weeks which is devoted to music, liberal politics, and popular culture, it has the most famous pop star adele, and this magazine would sell quite alot, and i like the way that they've made the magazine cover aimed at her, and i know that it hasnt got many pugs or subtitles or barcodes but it is aimed at a pop star and it also shown as a special issue, it mainly focuses on the audience and what they would want to see in a magazine.
